People who are considering purchasing elliptical trainers will ask the question: do ellipticals use electricity? This is an important logistical question. People are going to need to position their home elliptical trainers next to an electrical outlet if elliptical trainers use electricity. Some people might be wary of adding to their electric bills by buying fitness machines that use electricity. Consumers who are environmentally conscious might be concerned about purchasing fitness machines that use a lot of electricity, especially because people will need to use elliptical trainers most days of the week for an extended period of time in order to get most of the fitness benefits.

It depends on the elliptical trainer, but elliptical trainers generally do not use electricity. The majority of modern elliptical trainers are self-powered in the 2010's. It is true that the electronic displays that give people readings related to their heart rates, their choice of workout programs, or the number of calories that they've burned will use some energy. However, these displays are battery-powered, and they only use between five and ten watts of energy at the most. Compared to the energy usage of fitness machines like treadmills, the electricity that an elliptical trainer will use over the course of several decades is negligible.

Some treadmills are completely self-powered. Even the electronic displays are powered using the energy that the exercising person generates over the course of the workout, because that energy is kept within the system. Riders generate the energy that powers elliptical trainers, making elliptical trainers sustainable in a way that the majority of other fitness machines today are not.

The Energy Usage of Elliptical Trainers and Other Exercise Machines

People who are looking for a green way to exercise should use elliptical trainers, especially if they already use other forms of exercise equipment. Obviously, the greenest way to exercise is taking a walk outside or doing something else that literally requires zero energy. As long as people are not driving anyplace in order to walk somewhere, they're still going to be using literally zero energy.

However, taking a walk outdoors really isn't an option for a lot of people. Some people live in neighborhoods that really aren't safe enough for that. Other people live under weather conditions that just aren't favorable for outdoor walking for part of the year or for most of the year. People who want to be able to walk all year will usually make use of treadmills, and treadmills are terrible from an environmentalist perspective.

Treadmills use between 600 and 700 watts of energy. Treadmills also start to use more power as they get older, and the people who use them are going to wear them out relatively quickly. Elliptical trainers are not going to use slightly more energy as they get older. People only have to periodically replace the batteries on their digital displays, and they will have elliptical trainers that are in proper working order. People can also buy elliptical trainers that use literally zero energy, except for the energy that people are going to generate using their own muscle power.

Our Smooth RE 13.75 elliptical review was conducted at the same time as its high-range model, the Smooth RE 13.95 in order to give a more comprehensive view of the differences between the two. Both offer different qualities that would positively complement an active lifestyle.

The Smooth RE 13.75 is a light commercial level elliptical trainer, priced at $2999, in their new line that consists of the RE 11.35, RE 11.55, RE 13.75 and the RE 13.95, released in 2015. Both higher end models are modern looking, well built machines that will last for years to come.

Let's get started with some of the machine's highlights:

Convenience

This model includes a self-tensioning belt drive system for minimal maintenance, a front drive design which saves space and increases safety, and is lightweight for easy storage.

Warranty

This warranty is the best one, offering a 7 year coverage on the frame, 2 years on parts, and 1 year on electronics, console, and labor. This is better than the previous two models, but is also pretty standard given how much you're paying.

Hybrid Generator Resistance System

This system operates via your constant power that you provide to the machine. This charges up the battery, which powers the machine. This allows the device to be cordless, making it easy to move around and adaptable to any place in your home.

Rear-Access Design

This features minimizes the amount of space the machine takes up, which maximizes the floor space in your house. It helps increase the safety of the user by allowing you to enter and exit the machine in one easy step. This was a great feature that would help out with older people or even if the kids wanted to play around on it. (just make sure you supervise them)

Rowe r86 jukebox app. You can really get a whole body workout, without the high-impact that comes from running, with the upper-body workout arms. The grips are comfortable and soft, and using the workout arms allows you to engage more of your body, torching more calories, allowing you to tone up quicker.

Guru Test Drive

The first thing that I noticed between this and the RE 13.95, its more expensive counterpart, was the striking difference in screen. The RE 13.75 has a LED Matrix Display, which looks primitive next to the RE 13.95's 10-inch full color touchscreen.

The LED Matrix display allows you to track your speed, distance, time, and calories on its monitor and is definitely a no-frills type of set-up. However, the LED screen was dark and hard to read. This machine definitely leaves much to be desired in the entertainment realm. Aside from the LED, it offers Cardio Theater and Broadcast Theater compatibility. However, these are features that you have to buy separately. Additionally, there is no audio system, so you cannot listen to your music through speakers on this machine.

It also lacks a reading rack and an accessories tray, so anything that you have with you will need to be set down next to machine. No more watching Netflix on my iPad while I'm on this machine. Surprisingly, the machine also lacks a workout fan, something that is usually standard across the board for elliptical machines, especially in this price range.

Next, there are markedly fewer work-out apps on this machine. This one only comes with 6 workout apps: several preset ones, fitness testes, and a heart rate control workout. The RE 13.95 has 9 and the RE 11.55 has 20.

Beijing email extractor download. The 20″ stride length elliptical path stride worked okay with me, but it didn't have any cushioning in the feet pedals. While using it, my heel lifted up a little bit and I felt like I was on an old machine. Additionally, when some of our taller testers, they experienced discomfort in terms of stride length. This cuts down on the versatility of this machine. We would have liked to see 22″ or more at this price range.

Additionally, for the safety points that they received for the rear-access design, they also lose safety points because they lack an auto-stop button. However, one must also keep in mind that this machine is generated by the power the user creates through his or her strides, so this lack of a feature isn't entirely unreasonable.

Final Thoughts

For those of you who were looking for an all-inclusive elliptical, this is probably not the one for you, especially at this price range. You are better off having spent your money on their entry-level model, the RE 11.35, with all its bells and whistles, and saved the rest of your money for a rainy day.

The Smooth RE 13.75 offers little more than the basics, and not much else. However, if convenience and cutting back on your carbon footprint while maintaining an active lifestyle are your top priorities, this may be geared towards you. I would really like to see some more features on this, especially at this price point.
